Headteacher's Blog - Week Ending 22nd May 2026
What an absolutely wonderful week it has been at Southill Primary! As we approach the half-term break, I wanted to share some of the fantastic learning experiences our children have enjoyed this week.
This Week's Highlights

Year 1's Adventure to Kingston Maurward Our Year 1 pupils had a brilliant trip to Kingston Maurward this week, where they explored the beautiful grounds and engaged in hands-on learning activities. The children were a credit to our school, and it was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm shine through.
Mini Professor Workshops Years 4, 5 and 6 have been inspired by some fantastic Mini Professor workshops this week. The children were fully engaged in these exciting sessions, which brought science to life in such an interactive and memorable way.
Walk to School Week Success Walk to School Week has been a tremendous success! On Wednesday, we saw so many children get creative and dress up their wheels in preparation for the Mayor's visit. The energy and enthusiasm from our families has been incredible, and it's been fantastic to see so many children embracing active travel. Thank you for your support with this important initiative.
These are just a few examples of the many wonderful learning opportunities our children have experienced this week – there have been so many more moments of joy and achievement across the school.
A Huge Thank You
I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you for your continued support throughout this half term. Your partnership with us makes such a difference to our children's learning and wellbeing. It has been an absolute privilege to lead Southill Primary during this time, and I feel incredibly proud of everything our school community has achieved together.
Looking Ahead to Next Half Term
There is so much to look forward to after the break! The FOSS BBQ and Summer Fair will provide wonderful opportunities for our whole community to come together and celebrate. Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will be heading off on their residential trips – fantastic experiences that will create lasting memories and help develop independence and resilience. We have Sports Festivals planned for the whole school, celebrating physical activity, teamwork and healthy competition. We'll also be holding Transfer Days to help our children prepare for their next steps in their educational journey, whether that's moving to a new year group or transitioning to secondary school. It promises to be a busy and exciting half term ahead!
Wishing You a Wonderful Break
As we close this half term, I hope you all enjoy a wonderful, sun-filled break with your families. Take time to rest, recharge, and make some lovely memories together. If you are looking for some additional entertainment during your break, have a look at the flyers below!
Thank you once again for everything you do to support our school.
Warm wishes,
Matt
