Layering with watercolours
This week the children of year 3 began to explore Chromatic Art. They looked at the artist Maria Sibylla Merian who was born in Germany in 1647. She is famous for her detailed watercolour paintings of insects and plants and enabled people to learn more about the natural environment.
The children, using watercolours only as their medium, practised a layering technique where they would start with a light shade and then layer over it with a darker shade using the same colour. They worked carefully with great focus and engagement and produced some beautiful and thoughtful pieces of work.
