Little Gardeners at Work 🪏🪴

Year 1 enjoyed a truly beautiful, sunny afternoon as we headed outside for a special planting activity. The warm sunshine made it the perfect time to get our hands a little muddy and learn all about how plants grow.

The children were very excited to begin. Each child was given their own pot to plant sunflower seeds, taking responsibility for their very own plant🌻. We also worked together in pairs to plant magnolia seeds, encouraging teamwork and sharing.

Using trowels, we carefully filled our pots with soil🪏. This took great concentration and some impressive balancing skills! We were very proud of ourselves, as there were very few spills - what a result! Once the pots were ready, we used our fingers to poke small holes in the soil. This part was especially fun, even if it did leave our fingers nice and muddy. We gently placed the seeds into the holes and covered them over, making sure they were tucked in safely.

As part of our learning, we decided to place some of our seeds in sunny spots and others in the shade. This will help us investigate which environment helps plants grow best. We are very excited to observe any differences over time.

Now comes the most exciting part - waiting and watching! We will be keeping a close eye on our seeds as they begin to grow, and we can’t wait to see our sunflowers and magnolia plants come to life.

What a fantastic afternoon of learning, teamwork, and fun in the sunshine!☀️🪴🪏🌻
