Magdalen Farm!

Reception Class Visit to Magdalen Farm

What an amazing day our Reception children had on their visit to Magdalen Farm!

After a beautiful, scenic journey along the coast road, we arrived at the farm and were warmly welcomed by two friendly members of staff. The excitement was clear from the very start, and the children were eager to begin their adventure.

We started the day with team-building activities, focusing on developing our resilience. The children worked together brilliantly to build dens using large sticks. They showed fantastic determination and cooperation, even dragging huge pieces of wood independently. The finished dens were truly impressive, and the children were very proud of their creations.

After all that hard work, we headed to the barn to wash our hands and enjoy our packed lunches. As a special treat, we were given a delicious hot chocolate, which was a big hit with everyone!

In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to meet and feed the animals. We began with the chickens, where the children carefully added fresh straw and explored the coops to find warm, freshly laid eggs. They handled the eggs with great care, patiently passing them around the circle.

Next, we visited the pigs and met Rusty and Delilah, along with their ten adorable piglets. The children loved observing them and helping to feed them. Delilah was given some extra turnip to support her in feeding her piglets.

We then moved on to the goats, who were very excited to see us! Many of the children showed real bravery by holding out their hands flat to feed them.

Our final stop was the ‘Eggucation Centre’, where we explored how eggs are sorted. Each child placed an egg onto a special machine, which sorted them by weight. We discovered a mix of medium, large, and even a few extra-large eggs!

On the journey home, the coach was much quieter. Some children enjoyed a well-earned nap, while others sat calmly, reflecting on their favourite parts of the day.

It was a truly memorable experience, full of learning, teamwork, and fun. We are incredibly proud of all the children for their enthusiasm, resilience, and excellent behaviour throughout the trip.
