Seeds, Sticks and Silly Goats
Year 1 had a fantastic day on their school trip to Kingston Maurward! Although the weather was a little wet to begin with, it certainly did not stop us from having an amazing adventure together.
When we arrived, we enjoyed a healthy snack before meeting the lovely Sarah, who led our exciting planting workshop. The team at Kingston Maurward were incredibly kind and thoughtful, allowing us to do our planting activities under a marquee so we could stay dry.
During the workshop, Sarah gave us toilet rolls to plant our seeds in. We discovered that using toilet rolls is great for the environment because they decompose naturally once planted in the ground. The children planted sunflower seeds and nasturtiums. Did you know that nasturtiums are completely edible? We thought that was very interesting!
After washing our muddy hands from the amazing planting activity, it was time to explore the brilliant play area. The children had so much fun climbing, playing and exploring together.
Next came lunchtime! Luckily, the weather had started to clear up, so we headed back down to the marquee to enjoy our lunch. Afterwards, we collected sticks and went on a nature walk to create our very own nature wands. We found all sorts of beautiful natural treasures including daisies, colourful flowers, different shaped leaves and even pine cones. Using elastic bands, we carefully attached our findings to our sticks to make wonderful nature wands.
As we continued our walk, we came across some veryyyyy friendly goats! One cheeky goat even tried to take a chomp out of a child’s hi-vis jacket! The goats made us all laugh so much. We also saw donkeys, alpacas, sleeping pigs, geese and sheep along the way.
Overall, we had a fabulous day filled with learning, laughter and outdoor fun. It was a wonderful experience for Year 1 and we made lots of special memories together! Thank you to all those that helped out and made the day very special!
