St Ives Day 4
As we come to the end of the fourth and final day of one of the best residential visits we've had the pleasure to organise and attend, I can only reflect on what an incredibly special class this is. All week, they have given every activity their fullest engagement and effort. They have been cheerful, polite and respectful at all times, remaining organised and attentive.
Today's main activity was Paradise Park, which is a lovely family-run animal sanctuary in the nearby town of Hayle. There are some incredible species there, including Red Pandas, Bald Eagles, Otters, Penguins and endangered Macaws. They put on an incredible falconry display and the pupils fed the goats! There is also a great soft-play centre with terrifying vertical drop slides, which the children couldn't wait to get to. We travelled there and back via the public bus, which is also a lovely experience for the class with stunning views of the coast line.
When we got back to the hostel we took a group of Year 6 souvenir shopping in the town then headed back for our much-needed jacket potatoes!
After dinner, Nicole Tesseyman, a local singer-songwriter, came to do a sea-shanty workshop. The pupils not only listened and sang along to traditional and original sea-shanties, they wrote their own ones too!
They are now all nearly packed (we hope) and have settled into bed. Tomorrow, we will have breakfast and get on the coach at 9am - onwards to Bodmin Jail then home to Southill.
Well done, year 6!
