What A Week!

What a brilliant first week back at school!

This week we have continued with our Luna Loves Gardening. The book focuses on a community gadren where people work together to create amazing fruit and vegetables from all around the world. Before half term we began with a seed investigation. We looked at some different fruits and vegetables, dissecting them and removing the seeds. We then talked about how these seeds are dried before they can be replanted, like the ones that we can buy in the garden centre.

This week we have been using the text to support writing sentences using ‘and’ and ‘but’. We have been really focusing on the grammar - looking at breaking sentences into clauses containing nouns and verbs and making sure that we are using the correct tense by applying -ed or -ing to the end of words.

In science we have started our new topic all about living things and their habitats. We are focusing on sorting and classifying using the titles ‘Living, Dead and Never Been Alive’ and looking at what ‘living’ actually means. We have also looked at habitats and microhabitats, we have had lots of fun looking for these around the school grounds and seeing what living things we can find! The children have been really engaged with this new topic and already have lots of knowledge which they have been eager to share!

Finally, we have moved into Addition and Subtraction in maths. This half term we will focus on building upon the skills taught in Year 2. Making links between number facts, linking them to working within 30, 50 and eventually 100. This week we have been using our tens frames and dienes to support learning and independence when problem solving.

Well done Year 2. Lets do it all again next week!
