Y4: A great two days with Year 4!

Six weeks is a very long time for primary children of all ages, and us school staff always have to remind ourselves of this. As the summer holiday ends and they get themselves ready to go back to school, there must be a huge amount of mixed emotions and big thoughts whizzing around their brains. Despite this, Year 4 came into the classroom on Thursday morning in great spirits. They were chipper, smiley, polite and ready to start the year. I was so impressed with their resilience as they got to know their new classroom and settled into their seats with a new teacher.

At the start of the year, there is a lot of new information to take in. They need to learn new routines and get used to all the new expectations that come with being in an older year group.

On Thursday morning, we rehearsed our routines and wrote our class charter. Every pupil was fully engaged and showed me that they are ready to take their learning seriously, while being respectful to one another and having fun along the way. In the afternoon, we had a really fun music lesson in which we got out the drums and percussion and worked as a giant ensemble to create polyrhythms. I have to say, I am very excited about doing music with this class. They are excellent at it!

On Friday, after a welcome assembly from Matt, we started learning. In Writing, Year 4 wrote me a letter about something memorable they experienced over the summer. In maths, we started exploring our place value unit with some fun dice games. In the afternoon, we had our first computing lesson. This term, Year 4 are learning how to edit digital images on computers. They started by cropping and rotating pictures they had taken on the tablets.

If I were to choose one word to describe how I feel about teaching this class for the rest of the year, it would be: excited. They are fun, kind, respectful, honest and enthusiastic. What more could I ask for?

Well done, Year 4. You're all superstars.
