Y6: Bowling and Batting Under Pressure!
Year 6 were out on the field this week continuing their cricket learning, with a particular focus on performing key skills under the pressured situations that players find themselves in during a real game.
The lesson began with a series of catching and throwing warm-ups. Pupils worked in pairs, starting with underarm throws while running out to cones and back in between each catch. Once everyone was warmed up, they extended the challenge by increasing the distance and moving on to overarm throws, requiring greater accuracy, communication and concentration.
After discussing and analysing the most effective techniques for catching different types of throws, the class put their skills into action through games of 'mini cricket'. Working in groups of seven, the aim was to stump out the batsmen as they ran in tandem between the wickets after each bowl. The big question was: how many runs could they score before the fielding team worked together to get them out?
I was so impressed with the teamwork and determination on display throughout the lesson. There was plenty of positive problem solving as teams adapted their tactics, lots of encouragement between teammates and, most importantly, 100% effort from everyone involved.
It was great to see the class applying their skills in a competitive setting while maintaining such cheerful spirits and a positive attitude. A brilliant afternoon of cricket, Year 6. Well done!
