Year 3 rock!

This week Year 3 began their science unit on Rocks.  To kickstart the topic, children were given a sample of different types of rocks, from crystals to slate, granite to marble and some got their hands grubby while handling coal and chalk!

There was a lot of discussion questions and sharing of information.  The children learnt that there are three main types of rocks.  Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary.  Over the next two weeks the children will be learning about what rocks are, how they are formed, how they are used, what materials make up the Earth and how the fossils that can be found all around our coastline were formed millions of years ago!
