Zombierella

This week in Book Talk, we are sinking our teeth into Zombierella by Joseph Coelho! This deliciously dark twist on the classic Cinderella tale follows Cinderella, who meets a rather unfortunate end before the Shadow of Death brings her back to life for three nights as Zombierella!

We began today by unpicking some of the weird, wonderful and gruesome vocabulary used in the first chapter. Tomorrow, we will delve deeper into the story, exploring key themes, discussing the author’s clever language choices and making predictions about what might happen next.

Later in the week, the children will put their reading skills to the test by answering comprehension questions before we move on to something particularly gruesome... zombie poetry! 

The children will be ZOMBIFIED and challenged to imagine themselves as one of the undead. Using sentences of three, repetition and their senses, they will describe the revolting sights, stomach-churning smells and spine-tingling sounds of a zombie. Expect dangling eyeballs, rotting flesh, shuffling feet and plenty of groaning (it will be like them waking up for school on a Monday morning).

I cannot wait to read their finished pieces. They promise to be gruesome, gory and gloriously disgusting!
