Thursday 11 June 2026 Whatever the Weather, Southill Succeeds! Southill are made of strong stuff! Today, 12 determined pupils from Year 3 travelled to Weymouth Beach to take part in an exciting multi-skills festival and what an adventure it turned out to be.With grey skies overhead, strong winds sweeping across the sand and occasional bursts of rain, the children could easily have let the weather dampen their spirits. Instead, they embraced every challenge with huge smiles, endless enthusiasm and incredible resilience.Throughout the day, the pupils enjoyed a variety of activities including cricket, handball, ultimate frisbee and rugby. The windy conditions certainly added an extra challenge! Frisbees took unexpected journeys, balls bounced unpredictably across the sand and gusts of wind tested the children's determination. Despite this, the Southill team threw themselves into every activity with confidence, energy and a fantastic attitude.It was wonderful to see the children encouraging one another, celebrating successes and showing great sportsma

Wednesday 10 June 2026 Super Sentences Inspired by Stanley’s Stick This half term, our new story has been Stanley's Stick by John Hegley and Neal Layton. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this imaginative tale about a little boy called Stanley who finds a stick and turns it into all sorts of exciting things. Throughout the story, Stanley's stick becomes a banana, a rocket, a Stickosaurus, a pen and much more! It quickly becomes Stanley's best friend because it can be whatever he wants it to be.

Friday 5 June 2026 A Cracking Day of Cricket! Today, children from Year 6 travelled to Redlands to take part in the Year 6 Girls' Cricket Competition.Having first learned about cricket during the Autumn Term of Year 5, it was fantastic to see the girls putting their skills into practice. The morning session focused on skills, drills and learning the fundamentals of the game. With expert coaching from Weymouth Cricket Club, the children developed their batting, bowling and fielding skills. It was wonderful to see them quickly shake off the cobwebs, grow in confidence and begin to familiarise themselves with the game once again.After lunch, the competition got underway, with the children facing two teams in a series of matches to determine the overall winners. The girls batted in pairs: Avril and Eliza, Georgia and Eleanor, Ella and Bella, and Skyla and Mia.Each team started with 100 runs. Teams lost 5 runs whenever a batter was dismissed and gained runs through boundaries, sixes and runs scored between the wickets.Here are the resu

Friday 5 June 2026 Light and Shadow This week the children have been learning about light and shadows. They have learnt that the sun in our solar system is static and that it is the Earth that orbits it while at the same time spinning on its axis. The children have learnt that the spinning causes night and day. On a particularly wet day when we couldn't get outside to measure our shadows, the children used a torch and objects in the class to get the shadows they created to change position.

Thursday 4 June 2026 Reversible or Irreversible? That Is the Question! This term in Science, we have been exploring the fascinating world of materials – investigating their properties, learning about the three states of matter, and discovering how mixtures and solutions are formed.This week, our budding scientists tackled a brand-new challenge: reversible and irreversible changes. To deepen their understanding, the children became researchers, working collaboratively to investigate what these changes are and where we might see them in everyday life. Their mission was to create an informative, eye-catching project that showcased everything they had learned.What happened next was truly fantastic!The classroom buzzed with excitement as teams shared ideas, solved problems together and demonstrated excellent communication skills. I was incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm, teamwork and determination shown by everyone throughout the task. Friday 22 May 2026 Maths on the Move The sunshine was scorching, but that did not stop us from putting our maths skills to the test! Today's maths orienteering lesson was the perfect mix of learning, teamwork and plenty of energy-burning fun.Children worked in pairs and were given a map along with a starting number. Their mission was to plan the best route around the school grounds to find hidden cards packed with geometry questions. From coordinates and 2D shapes to tessellation and rotation, every challenge tested the skills we have been learning over the past few weeks.The school grounds quickly became a hive of excitement as children sprinted from clue to clue, eager to solve as many questions as possible. There was fantastic teamwork, brilliant problem-solving and lots of determination on display.It was wonderful to see everyone so enthusiastic about maths while also enjoying fresh air and exercise. A lesson full of movement, smiles and learning? You really cannot ask for more than that!
